Because of the heavy rain and strong winds they’re responsible for, hurricanes and tropical storms can cause a significant amount of property damage in even a short period of time. This can include roof damage and leaks, siding damage, significant water damage from rain and flooding, and even mold growth and structural issues!
At Disaster Blaster, we’re storm damage experts, able to evaluate the damages and begin the process of putting everything back together for you. We’re able to provide emergency tarping or boardup services, drying and mitigation, mold remediation, and repair services. We understand that a hurricane is a terrible experience and want to help you put it behind you as quickly as possible.
The primary difference between tropical storms and hurricanes is their sustained wind speed. While tropical storms may have a sustained wind speed of between 39 and 73 miles per hour, hurricanes are stronger and maintain sustained wind speeds of at least 74 miles per hour.
It’s important to recognize that whether a storm reaches the requirements of a hurricane or remains a tropical storm, they can each result in significant property damage.
Tornadoes can appear in an instant, destroying everything in their paths. Properties that are seemingly spared nearby can experience damage to their roof, siding, windows, and exterior structures like sheds and fences. To make matters worse, what may appear to be minor exterior damage to your roof or siding can allow moisture in, causing serious water damage and mold growth inside.
Disaster Blaster has the experience and tools necessary to identify tornado damage and what steps will be necessary to effectively address it. Our emergency storm damage response technicians will be able to address your roof tarping or emergency boardup needs, assess water intrusion and water damage issues so that they can begin any necessary drying, and assist with any necessary repairs!
Flood damage can occur following heavy rains and large-scale storm events like hurricanes, or as a result of seasonal changes that cause rapid snow and ice melt that overflows creeks, streams, and rivers. As a result, flooding can occur in many different parts of the country, from coastal towns to cities and rural areas.
When flood waters enter your home, they can cause a tremendous amount of damage very quickly. In addition to the initial damage to the structure and contents, this large volume of water has the potential to wick into building materials, causing significant additional damages and mold growth!
Disaster Blaster knows flood damage and our technicians have the skills and equipment to help. From the initial cleanup and drying to mold remediation and repairs, we can do it all!
While you’re keeping warm inside during the cold winter months, your home is exposed to the harsh cold, snow, and ice that accompanies it. This can result in significant damage to your home including roof and shingle damage, ice dams, frozen pipes and pipe breaks, and collapse of trees and structures due to the weight of ice and snow.
When the cold of winter takes its toll on your home or property, Disaster Blaster is here to help. Our trained professionals will be able to assess the issue, prevent further damage, and begin the mitigation process to address any moisture intrusion. Disaster Blaster is a full service company able to assist with the emergency services like tarping and water mitigation as well as the repairs to address your winter storm damage.
The insurance coverage available following a storm damage can be impacted by a variety of factors. Since the damage itself and the potential insurance implications can be different, it’s best if we briefly address different types of storm damage separately:
Hurricane Damage – Due to the diversity in damage that hurricanes can cause, hurricane damage coverage can be greatly impacted by what damage actually occurred. While Wind and debris damage is often covered by most homeowners insurance policies, damage from things like flood and rising water often is not (this generally requires specialty flood coverage). Additionally, depending on where your property is, some insurance companies may specifically exclude coverage for hurricane damage or set different coverage limits and policy terms. Tornado Damage – The damage caused by a tornado event are often wind and debris damage and interior water damage as a result of leaks. While this work is most often covered by your insurance policy, it’s important to consult your local insurance agent to ensure that you are adequately covered in the event that damage should occur. Flood Damage – Insurance companies often use a much broader definition of flood damage to include any damage caused by water that first touches the ground before entering your house (ground water). This damage is most often excluded from traditional home insurance policies, however separate coverage does exist to cover damage resulting from flooding. Additionally, depending on how the water entered your home and the circumstances that surround that event, some insurance policies may offer limited “Backup & Equipment Failure” endorsement coverage. If you have this endorsement on your policy, and the water entered your home by backing up through the drain or sewer system or as a result of failure of systems in place to prevent water intrusion such as sump pumps, you may have limited coverage available to address your issue. Winter Storm Damage – Cold temperatures, polar vortex events, snow, and ice can cause a variety of issues for a property. While these damages are most often covered by homeowners insurance policies, there are exceptions to every rule. If the damages are as a result of negligence or failure to maintain the property, such as cases where heat was not maintained and / or the property wasn’t properly winterized, the resulting damages may not be covered. However, as these circumstances are relatively uncommon, most property owners will find that winter storm damage is covered by their insurance policy.
