Why do I need a mitigation company when everything looks and feels dry?
The assumption that what looks dry, is dry is a common misconception. As water can wick up walls, under vinyl flooring, and into building materials and cavities, the only way to know that building materials are truly dry is to test with moisture meters.
I have used a shop vac to extract the water so the carpet should be ok, right?
Unfortunately, Shop Vacs are not powerful enough to extract the amount of water that may be in your carpet or flooring material. Industrial extractors, like the ones we use for mitigation are needed to properly ensure that all the water is pulled from surfaces. It is important to first remove standing water, including water collected under carpets and flooring, before effective drying can begin.
Is there anything I can do to reduce the impact of an impending flood?
While there isn't really anything that can fend off a flood, the damage due to mold growth can be controlled if an antimicrobial is applied prior to flood waters rising. In our experience, our customers that hired us for preventable measures fared better than the customers that did not take those precautions. Call our office if you are interested in these services.
